New Gig, New Roommate, Old Nonsense
Hi, blogsters! Hannah and I are in the thick of moving her stuff into my apartment. We’re sweating a lot but also giggling a lot. I’ve also been reading Octavia Spencer’s The Parable of the Talents, and it’s really good!
UPDATES.
I’m performing at The Green Room 42 on August 6th at 9:30pm. The show is called “The LGBTQ+ Lifeline: A Fundraiser Cabaret,” and it’s being produced in light of the current administration’s dissembling of the National LGBTQ+ Youth Suicide Lifeline. I was asked to provide a statement on what this show means to me; this is how I responded:
“The Trevor Project is an organization that pairs their activism with research. According to their 2024 survey, 69% of LGBTQ+ young people in my home-state, Pennsylvania, reported experiencing symptoms of anxiety, 53% reported experiencing symptoms of depression, and 36% reported seriously considering suicide in the past year. The Trump Administration ordered the termination of National LGBTQ+ Youth Suicide Lifeline, made effective July 17th. Now, more than ever, LGBTQ+ youth in my home state and across the nation are in need of life-saving resources, like 24/7 crisis care, which The Trevor Project provides. “
This event is a fundraiser for The Trevor Project. This is the second show I’ve done this year that supports this foundation.
Tickets are available here.
I’m also in rehearsals for Dominic Domenghini’s His Name is Eve, which is going up at The Tank’s LimeFest on August 22nd. Stay tuned for more information.
FREE SHAKESPEARE.
Have you ever heard of As You Mic It? A few months ago, a customer at work invited me to his Shakespeare open mic that he hosts on the last Tuesday of every month. This customer’s name is Simon, and I invited him to Fun Home and he came, which was so awesome. As You Mic It is at Frigid NYC (the little basement blackbox on St Marks between First Avenue and Avenue A), and for a cheap ticket, you get a free drink token and the opportunity to compete in and/or spectate and/or judge actors, English teachers, theater-enthusiasts, and everyone in between try their hand at Shakespeare for the chance to win some epic prizes. I’ve only been to two so far, but they’ve been a blast. Come! I’ll be there this month!
That’s all for now! Take it easy out there, blog!
